Hickory Creek Elementary School was packed with parents and family members last week as they celebrated Thanksgiving a little early with their students.
Attendees were served a traditional Thanksgiving lunch on both Thursday and Friday last week. This was a fun time to eat and reflect on what they were most thankful for. Many of the students were wearing handmade headbands that looked like turkeys.
When kindergartener Irie Miller was asked what she was thankful for this year, she said she was thankful for her family and for her Nana, Kelley Snyder, who came and ate with her.
Kindergartener Thea Shelton was joined for lunch by her father Joe. Thea said she was thankful for toys this year.
Greg Owens and Oaklee Tipton joined preschooler Brantlee Tipton for lunch on Thursday. When asked what he was thankful for this year Brantlee said, “What is thankful? I don’t know what that means.” Greg explained it means what you are proud of and then Brantlee said, “playing outside.” Brantlee said his favorite part of Thanksgiving is the giving.
The Thanksgiving lunches were a big hit for both family members and students. It was a nice way for the Hickory Creek students and family members to celebrate the holiday and reflect on what they are most thankful for this year while also enjoying some good food.
