Bringing senior citizens and youth together to have fun and form meaningful relationships is the goal at Riverview Terrace.
Lifestyle coordinator Linda Greene feels both groups have much to teach and learn from each other, and it’s always a pleasant experience.
“The children from Cedars of Lebanon School have been coming for over four years to visit with our residents,” said Greene. “Usually on their visits they have some activity planned or a fun game to share. I also think they enjoy the warm cookies we always have for them.”
Jennifer Hines, owner of Dodie’s Painting Studio, brought a watercolor activity for both groups to share. Hines holds monthly activities at the residence, and always welcomes youngsters to the mix. This visit she brought copies of turkeys for them to try their watercolor skills on.
“I thought watercolor would work well with this group,” said Hines. “It seems they all have enjoyed it and we have some very creatively designed turkeys.”
Student Summer Wanamaker enjoyed visiting with resident Rebecca Gross, as they painted side-by-side.
“I like to come here because I like visiting the people,” said Wanamaker.
Resident Mary Damon immensely enjoys visits from the children, spending time with them and sharing stories.
“It’s wonderful to have the children come by,” said Damon. “Actually, it’s a true blessing.”
