It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the McMinnville-Warren County Senior Center with decorated trees, wreaths and holiday decorations making the facility both merry and bright.
The board of directors held its annual Christmas Gala recently, and set the mood with festive decorations with approximately 90 people attending.
“We had a good crowd for the evening, selling all of our 10 tables,” said director Connie Smith. “This is one of our fundraisers to raise money to benefit the center and its operation.”
This year’s event marked the third gala, with the theme “Coming Home For Christmas” chosen by the board.
“I felt like they chose this theme in an effort to welcome me to my new home,” said Smith. “I am new to the area and it’s very nice to feel welcome.”
The guests enjoyed a formal dinner with lovely China place settings at each table. The catered meal was served by students in the Interact Club.
“We are so appreciative of them and all they do for us,” said Smith. “They have volunteered in other ways to help us, such as working in the flowers or the garden.”
She also points out they include intergenerational activities at the center, realizing the importance of the generations coming together and learning from each other.
Holiday entertainment was provided by Grace Ministries’ Ladies of Grace group. They sang a variety of songs, including some Christmas favorites.
“It was a wonderful evening, and the board is already looking forward to next year,” said Smith. “We are always trying to make it bigger and better.”
Senior Center board of directors are Dennis Kronlage, chairman; Hilda Lytle, secretary; and members-at-large Carolyn Borum, Jurrel Wood, Ron Weaver, Sally Brock, Randall Gilliam and Penny Kirby.
