“I’m thankful because we have this peaceful meal,” said Morrison Elementary student Claire Caldwell on Wednesday.

Special education and math interventionist Stephanie George and Alanna Starkey hosted a Thanksgiving Lunch for their students including all the fixin's. Special guests included Morrison Mayor Sue Anderson, Register of Deeds Wes Williams and caterer Gary Prater of Prater’s BBQ.

The students gifted each of the guests with a customized thank you card. Todd Dunn cut the turkey and student Alice Robledo served the plates to her classmates. The plates were full of turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.

When Chase Orlando learned that Prater’s catered the meal, he told Prater, “I love your ribs!” Jasper Rutledge and Cason Reed also gave their compliments to the chef with Rutledge saying, “He’s a good cook!” and Reed telling Prater, “You really out-did this one, Gary.”

When asked what their favorite part of the meal was, one group of students just answered, “Everything!” After the meal, each student said one thing they were thankful for. The turkey and mashed potatoes got the most thanks, but many also gave thanks for their parents, friends and teachers, including Ms. George.

Braxton Bell gave appreciation for his classmate Greyson Hawkins saying, “I’m thankful for Greyson because he plays with me.” One student even gave thanks for the makers of the cupcakes that were provided after the meal. Banana pudding, pumpkin pie and chess bars were also on the menu for dessert.

Everyone was satisfied with the meal which prompted Reed to say, “Honestly, I just want another roll.”
