The 93rd annual Tennessee Association of Fairs Convention will be held Jan. 22-23 in Nashville at the Sheraton Music City Hotel.
A group of Warren County A&L Fair officials will be attending the various meetings, representing the local fair. The theme for the convention is “Your Time Makes a Difference,” with the spotlight on the many volunteers who work tirelessly to make Tennessee fairs great.
With 36 categories open for competition, Warren County will be competing in many of the classes. Every fair is hoping to receive recognition, especially to receive the Champion of the Champions Award.
Local Fairest of the Fair Emma Holmes has been preparing for the state pageant, and will be participating in several categories in Nashville. Her trip starts with a contestant get-together focusing on a cowboy theme on Thursday. The actual pageant will be Friday at 6 p.m. in the Plantation Ballroom. She will take part in a private interview with judges the morning of the event.
“I am very honored to be a part of this, and I really hope to do well and represent our wonderful county,” said Emma.
A fun aspect of the competition for the girls is a high heel decorating contest, where each girl is encouraged to decorate a shoe to represent their fair.
Emma’s mother, Dee Dee Holmes said, “We had so much fun with this part of the convention. Emma is a glitzy kind of girl, and we really went all out on her shoe.”
The Warren County High School junior is 16 years old and the daughter of Dee Dee and Scott Holmes.
She is very active in school, participating in Warren County fast-pitch softball, Interact Club, choir, junior class secretary and as a member of the school advisory board.
