Vinson's Crossroads
Vinson’s Crossroads FCEC met on Jan.19 at the Magnolia Room. President Frances Hobbs called the meeting to order and introduced our guests Susan Driver, Minnie Batchelder and Irene Fuston.
The devotional was given by Alda Bandy who read Deuteronomy 16:17, and Wilma Davenport led in prayer. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Hobbs. Roll call was answered by the 13 members and guests by saying the first word coming to mind when thinking of a butterfly.
Secretary Lori Yates read the minutes from the Dec. 15 meeting, and they were approved. Treasurer Davenport gave the financial report.
Diane Grove and Bandy attended the global leader training to discuss International Day. Grove reported that International Day will held in May, and the country that will be celebrated will be Germany.
Bandy gave a homemade craft to each member and guests. Reading reports were given by Becky Phillips and Naomi Smith. Phillips reported a state-wide project this year is collecting pull-tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Hobbs reported on visitation day which will be held on March 14. There was discussion as to the food our club will be bringing. The educational chairpersons were selected for 2017.
Our next meeting will be held on Feb.16. After the Club Creed was read, the meeting was adjourned.
Midway
President Dian Greene called the February meeting of the Midway FCE to order at 10:10 a.m. at the Midway CIC Center. Everyone wore red in observance of February being heart month.
Devotional leader Paula Barnes’ thought for the day was taken from II Corinthians “When we take our gifts.” Mary Rubley led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll call was answered with 11 members saying a word derived from letters in the word butterfly. Secretary Betty Grissom read the minutes of the January meeting and they were approved as read. Treasurer Rubley gave the financial report.
Vice president Betty Whitlock gave several tips and suggestions on how to keep our hearts healthy and shared a fun Valentine game.
Global leader Barnes attended leader training on Jan. 18, and reported our International Day will celebrate Germany, with more details to come later.
Reading reports were given by Green and Grissom. Jean Smith displayed a fabric Easter egg, and Grissom demonstrated some useful ways to use a canning lid ring. She also expressed a way to peel a kiwi fruit, using a spoon after it has been cut in half.
Agent Hilda Lytle’s program was on a healthy heart. Health begins with you. Also, she had a lifestyle assessment quiz and challenge to be a smart health care consumer with more topics on the subject as the year goes on.
Topics of old business included our annual countywide visitation on March 14. All members plan to attend. Volunteering to bring soup were Fuston and Smith; sandwiches by Barnes and Rubley, and desserts by Jean Cantrell, Brenda Blocker, Whitlock and Green. Clubs are to decorate a table with cast iron items. Our guest speaker will demonstrate how to cook with cast iron and how to clean and care for it. Also, Sue Williams will demonstrate in various stages the art of white oak basket making from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Special projects leader Sharon Bennett will attended leader training this month.
Members were encouraged to attend FCE county council meeting on March 20. Those that attend will bring a dish detergent or laundry detergent to be delivered to the women’s shelter.
Rubley and Green volunteered to serve as March hostesses.
Serving as hostess for February were Sharon Bennett and Elva Dean Bell. The tables were decorated with red roses, valentine candy and hearts.
An Italian lunch with all the trimmings was served followed with dessert. Betty Grissom celebrated a February birthday and shared her heart shaped birthday cake, made by Elva Dean Bell.
The next meeting of the Midway FCE will be March 1 at 10 a.m.
