Hickory Creek FCE met Jan. 5 at the Warren County Administration Building at 10 a.m. The meeting was called to order by President Vickie Gibbs. She recognized new members Irene Fuston, Dorothy Ramsey, Tina Ramsey and Sylvia Richardson. As devotional, Ann Whitman read John 10:10. We were led in the pledge to the flag by Gibbs.
Secretary Phyllis Hillis called roll, with the 15 members answering with the first word that comes to mind when they think of a butterfly. The minutes from the previous meeting were read by Hillis and approved. Treasurer Marian Jacobs gave the financial report.
Vice president Davis asked for member reports and demonstrations. Since January is membership promotion month, Martha McBride and Janis Darnaby asked several ladies to visit our meeting. Demonstrations were given by Brenda Clark, showing bookmarkers made of large paper clips decorated with yoyos. Robbie Prater showed quilt pieces she is embroidering with various states and their state flower. Book reports were given by Clark, Prater, Whitman and Tina Ramsey. Thirteen members reported reading since the last meeting. The year-end reports were completed by Davis.
President Gibbs thanked Darnaby for making the arrangements for our Christmas outing at Evins Mill in Smithville, where the members enjoyed the fun and fellowship.
The scrapbook was discussed, and a motion was made and passed to give Darnaby $25 for supplies. Gibbs asked members to come up with a quarterly service project. Darnaby, McBride, Clark and Whitman volunteered to work the canteen at the Bloodmobile. Gibbs and Darnaby will be attending global leader training, and McBride will attend regional information day.
We will be making a visit to the McMinnville Boarding Home to play Bingo and celebrate the resident’s birthdays with cake and ice cream on Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m. President Gibbs announced the tentative date for visitation day to be March 14, with more details to be discussed at the next meeting. The program will be on the use and care of cast iron cookware. Gibbs asked everyone to be aware of the state project list and participate when possible. The quarterly visit to Fannie B’s is set for Feb. 2 at 12:30 p.m.
Celebrating January birthdays are Tina Ramsey, Carolyn Womack and Marian Jacobs. A thank you card was received from our Meals on Wheels for the donation. Ramsey announced she participates in a community project called Busy B Ministry that meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m. She also thanked the club for the gingerbread village displayed in her shop window, with many people enjoying it through the season.
The next meeting will be Feb. 2 at the administrative building beginning at 10 a.m.
