Guests attending Covenant Academy’s Father Daughter Ball had the sensation of being trapped in eternal winter Saturday as a ”Frozen In Time” theme was used. Snowy trees welcomed guests to the gymnasium, which was transformed into an icy wonderland with ice- encrusted arrangements on each table. White, flowing fabric draped the stage area with replica gates to a frozen kingdom surrounded by faux snow.
A record 211 tickets were sold for the popular event sponsored by Covenant Academy as a fundraiser for the school. Organizers chose the “Frozen” theme early because of the popular movie, not realizing how close to reality it would be.
“I was very concerned about the weather,” said executive director Earline Steakley. “I came out here on Friday and our parking lot was very icy. But the sun came out and it melted away making our night possible.”
The evening is planned for fathers, grandfathers, uncles or other men who influence young ladies to have a special night of fellowship. Attendees were treated to a delicious dinner of tenderloin or chicken tenders and assorted vegetables. Slices of Elsa’s Cake in either chocolate or vanilla were topped with a snowflake confection and was a special treat for the guests.
Sisters Sami and Mary Grace Anderson didn’t waste any time getting comfortable, as they both took off their shoes very early in the evening.
“My shoes were hurting my feet,” said Sami. They both agreed the best part of the night is dancing with their daddy. Assorted tunes were provided by a disc jockey throughout the evening both for listening and for dancing.
Couples were able to have memento photographs made by Miller Photography before dinner and dancing. A special treat was a performance by Courtney White, who sang “Do You Want To Build A Snowman,” and “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen.”
“I have a 2-year-old daughter who loves the movie, so I am very familiar with the songs,” said White. She sings with Covenant Fellowship’s praise band, and was acquired for the entertainment because of her lovely singing voice.
Brystol Davis brought his daughter Jaidyn, 4, to the ball for the first time.
“We are having a great time,” said Davis. “I feel it’s important for us to spend time together.”
Six-year-old Emma Kirby kept with the “Frozen” theme, dressing for the evening as Elsa from the movie. She wore an ice blue dress, had her hair braided to the side and topped with a miniature tiara.
The crowd was filled with attendees of all ages, with 8-month-old Kerrigan Johnson quite comfortable in the arms of her father, Kenny.
“Of course this is her first time,” said Kenny. “I wanted to do this because I didn’t have sisters or female cousins to be around, so this is mine and Kerrigan’s moment.”
The evening was a huge success, and committee member Monty Childers expressed his thanks to the many volunteers who worked the event and helped to make it special for all those in attendance.
