SUNDAY, AUG. 14A gospel meeting will be held Aug. 14-17 with Don Blackwell at Central Church of Christ with Bible study at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:30 a.m., meal at noon, and evening and weeknight worship at 7 p.m. There will be a community meal at the church Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Blackwell will speak at noon. TUESDAY, AUG. 16American Legion Post 173 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at Rock Island State Park in picnic area No. 1 at 6 p.m. There are collection boxes for unserviceable flags located at Peg Broadcasting at 230 West Colville, the Southern Standard lobby on College Street, and at 4068 Smithville Highway at the Cooper Drive intersection.
