Centertown held its 3rd annual History Bee recently at the school. The top five overall scores in the competition took an online test provided by the History Bee to qualify for the state competition, which was held in Nashville in March.
All five of Centertown’s students qualified for the state competition, with seventh-grader Carter Mansfield qualifying for the national competition. It will take place in Louisville, Ky., in May. Each student competed in four rounds of competition.
Other students competing in Nashville were David Nicholas, Julia Taylor, Taylor Pegg and Kayla Myers.
The National History Bee is an exciting new history competition for school children across America. Participating students progress from the school level to the regional level and finally to the national championship until one student is crowned the National History Bee Champion. What makes this competition unique is that participants compete head-to-head to be the first to “buzz-in” with the correct answer.
This is the second year that a Centertown student has advanced to the national competition. All five of the students that went to Nashville put in numerous hours of studying to prepare for the competition.
Teacher Rex Crabtree said, “I am very proud of all the students and their accomplishment of reaching the regionals, and wish Carter much luck at the nationals.”
