The battle for the best cupcake and best pull-apart cake has been fought by local 4-H members. They recently participated in Cupcake Battle, with members able to enter sweets for judging in two categories.
To participate in the individual cupcake category, bakers provided three cupcakes, either all the same in decoration and flavor, or completely different.
For the pull-apart cake category, entries were to consist of an arrangement of cupcakes to form a single decorated cake. The creation could not have any tiers or be shaped in a tower.
Judges taking on the difficult task marked the entries on 50 percent outside appearance, 30 percent based on flavor, and 20 percent on inside appearance of the cake.
“This is the second year for our Cupcake Battle,” said agent Emily Mote. “We decided to add a baking contest that was focused on decorating because of the popularity of the dessert. We had lots of success with this contest, and hopes to continue to grow.”
