McMinnville resident Jay Wood has been promoted to general manager of Micro Craft, Inc. in Tullahoma.


Micro Craft provides support to the aerospace industry, NASA, and the Department of Defense with prototype models and flight hardware. Wood has been with the company for 18.5 years.


“I am humbled and honored to have been granted this opportunity at a time when Micro Craft is positioned for tremendous and rapid growth in support of the defense industry,” said Wood. “I am excited about the company’s leadership direction and eager to engage in this next phase of its growth and development.”


In his new role as general manager, Wood is responsible for all aspects of customer deliverables. This includes engineering, electronics lab, manufacturing, program management/ estimating and quality.


“We do a lot of interesting things,” said Wood, indicating Micro Craft produces many aircraft components and offers engineering support to other companies such as Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.


With over 20 years of experience with hypersonic programs, Micro Craft was the prime contractor for NASA’s X-43 program, also known as Hyper-X.


Micro Craft has 67 employees and was founded in 1958.

Prior to joining Micro Craft, Wood spent 13 years supporting a wide range of small to large companies, including aerospace, with CNC machinery integration, product development, programming, and personnel training on CAD/ CAM software and production equipment. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Murray State University in industrial technology.


Wood has been a McMinnville resident for 32 years. He and his wife, Keri, have four children, Hayden, Hannah, Harrison and Haley, and are members of Central Church of Christ.
