WCHS senior Katie Tubb competed in the Miss Chattanooga, Miss Scenic City and Miss Tennessee Valley pageants on Saturday at Chattanooga State. There were 18 contestants from throughout Tennessee. They competed in swimsuit, talent, on-stage question, evening gown and private interview. Three winners were crowned from each pageant. There were no top 10 lists. Tubb will be competing Aug. 9 for Miss Knoxville and Miss Rocky Top. She is the 17-year-old daughter of John and Joy Tubb.

Knoxville Zoo's Wee Play Adventure opens

Knoxville Zoo has a new experience designed to inspire preschool and elementary-aged visitors to take an imagination-fueled adventure!  Wee Play Adventure, sponsored by Pilot Flying J, is the zoo’s much-anticipated indoor creative play area that features the zoo’s Komodo dragons in one of the best giant lizard habitats in the country.  Wee Play Adventure and is open daily from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Mustang brightens dreary day

Rain Friday night and Saturday did put a damper on the level of activity at the annual Marketville, sponsored by the Southern Standard and held Saturday. Over 100 vendors were registered to attend the event at Warren County Fairgrounds, but many changed their plans because of the weather.

Local teenager Katherine Tubb will be vying for a title in the Scenic City Pageants in Chattanooga on Saturday, July 19. She is the reigning Miss Snow Princess, a title she won in March of this year.

Tennessee Aquarium announces first penguin chick of 2014

 There’s a fluffy new face in the Tennessee Aquarium’s Penguins’ Rock exhibit. Aviculturists welcomed the new chick to the colony in June. The proud parents, “Chaos” and “Merlin,” stay busy snuggling their baby in the nest and seem to enjoy showing it off to everyone.

Marketville to feature Mustangs

Marketville to feature Mustangs

Marketville is back for another year of fun and entertainment. The event, which is free to the public, is sponsored by the Southern Standard, and will be held Saturday at the Warren County Fairgrounds. Over 100 vendors will be set up around the fairgrounds offering yard sale items, as well as craft and vintage items. Assorted entertainment acts will be showcased throughout the day.
