On the downhill side of summer break, the fall and winter sports teams are back at it. After the required TSSAA dead period, the gridiron and the hardwood athletes are busy again as the Pioneer football team, basketball teams, cross country and girls soccer teams went back in action preparing for the start of another season. With the first day of school Aug. 10, the first Pioneer football game is one week, and one day later as the Pioneers play host to neighboring DeKalb County on Friday, Aug. 18, beginning at 7 p.m.
