Robert Newton Reed II, better known as "Cowboy Bob," 89, of Cookeville died Sunday, Oct. 29, at Bethesda Health Care Center in Cookeville.
Bob was born Friday, Aug. 24, 1928 in Pulaski, the son of the late Robert and Bessie Louise (Jones) Reed. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He loved singing gospel music and sang with various gospel groups. He attended various Pentecostal Churches. He was an avid collector of cowboy and Indian memorabilia, a DJ, performed at many county fairs, and was a book author.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years before his retirement and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars receiving the Purple Heart as well as other medals.
Bob is survived by his wife of 10 years, Shirley Agnes (Black) Reed of Cookeville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gail Parker of Kings Mountain, N.C., Dora and Felipe Lopez of McMinnville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Janice Reed of McMinnville, Karl and Karen Reed of Cookeville, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four stepchildren with honorable mention of Deborah Gail Calhoun; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Anna Sue Reed of McMinnville, Sylvia Carol and Landon Cantrell of McMinnville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas Kidd and Sharon Reed, Richard and Debbie Reed, Douglas and Dessa Reed and a sister-in-law, Shirley Reed, all of McMinnville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nettie M. Reed; two grandchildren, Eric Parker and Justin Reed; brother, William (Billy) Reed, two half-brothers, Meadows and George Reed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. A celebration of life was held Thursday, Nov. 2, beginning at the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home, with Tim Miles officiating. Visit www.crestlawnmemorial.com to sign the online guest register.
