James E. Hines, 91

James E. Hines,  91, of Smyrna, formally of McMinnville, died Sunday, Feb. 17 at Christian Care Center of Rutherford County after a brief illness.
He was born in Huntsville, Ala., on June 27, 1921, a son of the late Lemmer (Perry) and Urby Hines. He was the husband of Doshie P. Hines of Smyrna, formally of McMinnville. He was a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ of Smyrna. He worked as a supervisor at Kingsboro and was a farmer where he raised cattle and garden crops. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a gunner on the Galland 361 Ship.
He is survived by daughter, Jean, and husband Edwin Gleason of Smyrna; sister Virginia, and husband Jesse King of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Rhonda Egerton, Dianna Collinsworth, Kerry Gleason, Kimberly Cagle; six great-grandchildren, Jessica Bannister, Kerry Douglas Gleason, Kristi Gleason, Johnathan Gleason, Timothy Egerton, Nichole Egerton, and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Urby and Lemmer (Perry) Hines, two sisters, Rosie Rogers, and one infant sister, one brother, Franklin Hines, one infant grandson, Edwin Keith Gleason.
Funeral service was held Tuesday with Tim Egerton officiating. Interment followed at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Morrison with graveside rites by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. To sign the online guest book, visit www.gardensofmemoryfuneralhome.com.
