Sun Drop Romp starts tomorrow

The Warren County High School basketball teams will be taking part in the third annual Sun Drop Romp Christmas tournament starting tomorrow.
The Christmas tournament, which features 11 girls teams and 14 boys teams, will start at four different gyms tomorrow before moving to Morrison Elementary Gym and Charlie Dalton Gym Friday and Saturday.
DeKalb County, Cannon County, Morrison Elementary and Charlie Dalton Gym will each have games tomorrow as the Sun Drop Romp Christmas tournament has become one of the biggest events in the Midstate.
The Lady Pioneers and Pioneers will each have the opportunity to play two games Thursday on their home court.
The Lady Pioneers will kick off action at Charlie Dalton Gym tomorrow with a 1:30 p.m. game against the 8-1 Rhea County Lady Eagles. With a win, the Warren County girls team would advance to the quarterfinals where it would face Monterey at 6 p.m. Thursday night.
If the Lady Pioneers finish Thursday with two wins, Warren County will move into a semifinal game at Charlie Dalton Gym Friday at 4:30 p.m. where a potential rematch with the Cannon County Lady Lions awaits.
A loss to Rhea County or Monterey would drop the Lady Pioneers into the consolation bracket, which is being held at Morrison Gym Friday and Saturday.
The Pioneers will follow the Lady Pioneers tomorrow with a game against Sequatchie County at 3 p.m.
A win would mean the Warren County boys would return to Charlie Dalton Gym for a 7:30 p.m. game against either Rhea County or Monterey.
With two wins, the Pioneers would play at 9 p.m. Friday night at Charlie Dalton Gym. Losses in either game Thursday would drop the Pioneers into the consolation bracket.
Lady Pioneer coach Erick Baird developed the tournament in 2010 as it started as an eight-team girls tournament won by Trousdale County.
Last season, the tournament expanded to boys and girls with the Oakland Lady Patriots and Cookeville Cavaliers claiming top honors.
The championship games for this year are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Charlie Dalton Gym.
