WCHS freshman teams victorious

The Warren County High School freshman basketball teams got off to a great start Monday night with wins over Coffee County at Charlie Dalton Gym.
The Lady Pioneers won 42-34, followed by a 51-41 victory by the Pioneers over the Red Raiders.
Saydee Winfree led the charge for the Lady Pioneers as she scored all 14 of her points in the first half as the Lady Pioneers built an insurmountable lead against the Lady Raiders.
Winfree was unstoppable early as she did whatever she wanted against the Coffee County defense. Winfree got to the bucket for layups, pulled up from midrange and hit a 3-pointer as she scored 11 of her team’s 12 first-quarter points.
Winfree’s outburst helped Warren County lead 12-4 after the first quarter and she extended the advantage to double figures with a 3-pointer to begin the second period. Baskets by Kristen Rowland and Emily Scott put the Lady Pioneers ahead 19-11 at halftime.
Coffee County couldn’t claw its way back in the second half as Lexi Rowland and Marlee Smith each scored five points after intermission to help the Lady Pioneers to their first win.
Kristen Rowland finished with seven points while Smith and Lexi Rowland added five points apiece.
Logan Martin was the driving force behind a 10-point victory for the Pioneers. Martin used his length and agility around the rim to get easy buckets. Martin scored 10 of his team-high 13 points in the first half as Warren County led 24-15 at halftime.
Edgar Morales helped the Pioneers finish off the Red Raiders with 10 points in the final period.
Jake Pennington added nine points and Brock Majors chipped in eight.
Warren County will be back in action tomorrow with a road game in White County. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. for the girls and the boys game will follow.
