Bulldogs beat Boyd Broncos

When Boyd tried to defend Eastside’s star scorer Dillon Young, it was like the Broncos were seeing two of the Bulldog guard. They were.
Dillon Young and his twin brother Logan Young combined for 17 points to help the Bulldogs beat the Broncos 41-33 at J.K. Stanley Gymnasium Monday night.
Eastside, which improved to 5-4 and moved into a tie for third place with Centertown in the boys 5-6 grade elementary league, has gotten twin magic plenty this season and Dillon and Logan are two of the team’s top scorers.
The two were at it again Monday and they got help from point guard Axel Rodriguez to put away a pesky Bronco squad led by Heath Kuykendall.
Rodriguez scored a season-high 14 points in the victory as Eastside had too much firepower for Boyd to contain.
Andrew Fults got the Bulldogs started by scoring four points in the opening period while Logan added three.
Kuykendall, the league’s leading scorer, fueled Boyd with four points but the Broncos fell behind 9-6 after the first period.
Rodriguez started to swing things in the second quarter when he scored six points while headlining the Bulldog press. Rodriguez got easy buckets in transition as Eastside went to the break leading 20-14.
Kuykendall got help in the third period as Bryson Stiles, Brayden Scott and Will Rivers each connected on shots, but a three-point play late by Logan Young kept Eastside ahead comfortably at 31-22 entering the final quarter.
Rivers scored six points and Kuykendall added five in the fourth for Boyd, but four points from Rodriguez and buckets from Logan, Dillon and Fults led Eastside to its fifth win this season.
Fults finished with 10 points, followed by Logan with nine and Dillon with eight.
Kuykendall led all scorers with 15 points, upping his season average to 14.7 points per game. Rivers finished with eight, while Scott added four. Stiles, Jordan Hoover and Eli Kuykendall scored two points apiece.
