Eagles, Pioneers win

The Morrison Eagles and Warren County Middle School Pioneers have been the top two teams in the 5-6 grade boys elementary league this season. Nothing changed Thursday night.
Morrison improved to a league leading 7-0 by defeating the Centertown Warriors 43-12, while Warren County stayed one step behind at 6-1 with a 40-16 win over the Dibrell Wildcats.
Eagle point guard Ethan Smith had a huge night against the Warriors, scoring a season-high 23 points in three quarters before watching the final period on the bench.
Smith started slow, scoring two points in the first quarter as the game went to the first intermission with Morrison leading 4-2.
Scoring picked up when Smith dropped 10 points in the second quarter, highlighted by a 3-pointer, to put the Eagles ahead 22-7 at halftime.
Smith scored 11 more points in the third quarter, including sinking another 3-pointer, as Morrison extended its lead to 37-9 and rested its starters in the final six minutes.
Peyton Wimley scored four points in the final period as Morrison remained unbeaten.
Irving Espinoza added six points for Morrison, followed by Wimley and Raven Lewandowski with four each and Devin Martin, Ryland Holder and Ronaldo Martinez with two points apiece.
Jax McBride led Centertown, which fell to 3-4, with four points. Hunter Adams added three and Brant Young tallied two.
Warren County spread the scoring around to defeat Dibrell, getting points from nine different players.
Crockett Walker led the way, scoring nine points for the Pioneers. Will Cantrell and Benjamin Clark added eight points apiece, followed by Brandon Hennessee with six. Sloan Seymour, Gavin Myers, Jamison Holt and Isaiah Rutledge scored two each and Joshua Macanas sank a free throw for his only point.
Lane Jones led the Wildcats with six points, followed by Micah Webster with five, Jacob Lann with three on a fourth-quarter 3-pointer and Jordan Sandlin with two. Dibrell fell to 2-5 with the loss.
