Ghoulish golf

The eerie fog that greeted golfers at McMinnville Country Club Wednesday morning was the perfect setting for the Ladies Halloween tournament.
The Halloween spirit was alive and well as more than 70 women turned out to compete in the end-of-the-year event.
Instead of the usual course attire, women dressed up in costumes as having the best outfit was just as coveted as winning a team trophy in one of three flights.
It was a shock to many to see Dorthy from “Wizard of Oz,” practicing her putting alongside a bumble bee while red Solo cups watched. The turnout and participation had event organizers believing the event was a true success.
By the time the early morning Halloween festitivities ended and the fog lifted, the ladies took the course in hopes of winning a trophy and perhaps a new car.
Kidd Ford offered a new car to any player who hit a hole in one on the par-3, seventh hole, but Diane Edmondson had to settle for closest to the pin as her shot was just a few feet away from finding the hole.
Edmondson was one of four players to win closest to the pin, joining Wanda Sanders on No. 2, Linda Higgins on No. 14 and Joanna Herman on No. 17.
Higgins was a winner individually and as a team, joining Kimberly Cooper, Barbara Fisher and Terri Wallace to win the third flight.
Judy Arnold, Bridget Bennett, Mary Lou Lassiter and Claudia Stewart won the second flight and Paula Morton, Dottie Dube, Leslie Letner and Norma Miszklevitz claimed the top spot in the first flight.
Winning the driving competitions on the par-5 holes were Carol Hobbs on No. 8 and Dianna Thaxton on No. 18.
